Pierre de Coubertin Elementary School is located on the corner of Lavoisier and Valery street in the northwest section of St. Leonard.
The school is adjacent to a park offering many recreational and sports facilities. The residential area surrounding the school includes a diversity of housing; ranging from very luxurious single family homes to duplexes, triplexes, fiveplexes and apartments.
The school has existed for 35 years. A new wing was added to the original rectangular structure in 1998. The school now consists of 36 classrooms capable of accommodating 750 students, a gymnasium, a large central library and resource room, a teacher’s room and the administrative and professional offices. It serves a population who live in the immediate area from kindergarten to grade 6.
The overwhelming majority of students are of Italian origin, from middle class families where usually both parents work.
The family and the community maintain close ties. They both perform functions that are essential towards safeguarding the cultural heritage and mother tongue.
The school remains an English language institution, providing a bilingual program for all students from K to cycle III. Italian is offered to all students from cycle I to cycle III. Services are also provided, through our Resource teachers, to students requiring additional assistance.
In addition to our regular homeroom teachers Pierre de Coubertin has specialists for physical education, music, art and Italian.
Furthermore, a nurse, a social worker, a speech therapist, psychologist and a spiritual and community animator are assigned to the school on a part-time basis.
Our open houses will be held in person.
